Background
The Tampa Oratorio Singers was formed in 1967 in Tampa, Florida to provide Bay Area music lovers the opportunity to perform and hear the music of the great choral masters. The first performance of the chorus was a Christmas presentation of G. F. Handel's "Messiah".

Membership in the Tampa Oratorio Singers is achieved via audition and is open to anyone in the area who has experience in choral music. Rehearsals are held each Monday evening at Palma Ceia Presbyterian Church at 3501 San Jose.

Typically, the volunteer chorus of 70+ members will present multiple concerts at locations around Tampa Bay. A popular tradition is the presentation of the Christmas portion of Handel's "Messiah." In addition, the works of many of the great masters such as Bach, Mozart, Haydn, Dvorak and others, as well as the music of contemporary composers such as Ralph Vaughan Williams, Randall Thompson, etc. have been performed. These concerts have drawn thousands of music lovers. Accompaniment varies from piano to small ensembles to a full orchestra. Local area soloists are also used.

Governing the organization is an elected Board of Directors that meets monthly throughout the year. The musical director is an ex-officio member of the board.
