Mozart's Great Mass in C minor

    Description:

    Mozart began this mass as a promise. Written without a commission from patrons, Mozart created this piece as a mass of thanksgiving for his marriage and the prospective arrival of his first child.   

     
    Unlike Mozart’s other compositions, this Great Mass in C minor was to be performed on a large scale, including choruses with five and even eight voice parts.  The lavish double-chorus, double-orchestra feast is one of Mozart’s most remarkable compositions

    The Brahms German Requiem is one of the most important and well-loved of the choral masterworks of the Romantic period.

    The Requiem spans a full spectrum of human emotion with statements of celebration and hope, sadness and triumph, and provides a blessing of consolation, comfort, and peace.


    The Requiem is often cited as the pinnacle of Brahms’ career, showcasing his love for both voice and orchestra. The familiar chorus “How Lovely is Thy Dwelling Place” highlights themes of comfort and solace.
